The 1988 exhibition Gold of the Pharaohs attracted 323,300 people and has been, until now, the best attended AGNSW exhibition.

“Today we can announce that 339,321 tickets have already been sold for Picasso and there are five days to go. With an average daily attendance of 2,700 people, it means Picasso is now well and truly the highest attended exhibition in our history. We have broken our own record, which is wonderful,” said Anne Flanagan, acting director, Art Gallery of NSW.

The NSW Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris said, “We congratulate the Art Gallery of NSW on breaking its attendance record. The NSW government through Destination NSW is proud to support this exhibition as part of the Sydney International Art Series, bringing the world’s most outstanding exhibitions to Australia.

“Sydney is the only Australian city to show this exhibition; the most significant exhibition of Picasso’s art ever held in this country, featuring 150 masterpieces by one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.”

Following the success of Picasso till midnight last Saturday, the Gallery is again opening late this Saturday 24 March, offering more opportunity for people to see the exhibition before it leaves Australia.

Book your timed-entry ticket to Picasso and enjoy a full program of free talks, films, tours and performances taking place this Saturday. Starting at 3pm, join in the fun interactive tours for children and watch a live flamenco dance performance.
