Extended hours to see the Dutch masters

Last chance to see Sydney International Art Series exhibition – closing 18 Feb

In its final week, visitors to the Sydney International Art Series exhibition, Rembrandt and the Dutch Golden Age: Masterpieces of the Rijksmuseum can enjoy extended hours from 10am until 9pm on Friday 16, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 February when the exhibition must close.

The Dutch masters can also be viewed until late on Wednesday 14 February when the Gallery hosts a Valentine’s Day special Art After Hours evening. Events include a talk with artist Janet Laurence about her fascinating installation work The matter of the masters, now showing at the Gallery, inspired by conservation research and analysis of Rembrandt’s paintings (5.30pm-6pm, free).

From Vermeer’s Woman reading a letter to Rodin’s The kiss, James Valentine looks at the artworks that celebrate love. (6.30pm-7pm, free). At 7.15pm (free with exhibition ticket) visitors can enjoy an introductory guided tour of highlights from the exhibition and from 7.30pm the silky harmonies of the duo Microwave Jenny can be heard in the entrance court until 8.30pm.

The first major exhibition of Dutch masters in Sydney, Rembrandt and the Dutch Golden Age: Masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum, comprises 78 exceptional works of art from the renowned Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Offering fascinating insights into 26 key paintings and narrated by award-winning British actress Miriam Margolyes, a free audio guide for visitors features a selection of 17th century music to accompany each room, selected by ABC Classics, as well as tracks written for children and audio descriptions of the paintings for people who are blind or vision impaired.
