To celebrate the launch of Art & About Sydney and the exhibition Eugène Atget: Old Paris, the Gallery invites you to enjoy an evening of fine French music, talks and a film screening inspired by documentary photographer Eugène Atget and his compelling images of early 20th-century Paris.

This year’s theme for Art & About is ‘colour’ so join Michael Brown, the Art Gallery of NSW own Senior Display Technician as he discusses the trend towards the colour white in gallery spaces.

Enjoy a glass of wine in the Sepia Bar and be transported to early 20th-century Paris through jazz and folk music by popular duo My Sauce Good and singer-songwriter Eddie Bronson with his trio.

There’s a screening of the 1955 film Rififi (dir: Jules Dassin) and several special guided tours of Atget as well as introductory lectures during the evening.

Be part of the Gallery’s first Instagram photography competition judged by the Gallery’s senior curator of photographs, Judy Annear. As photography moves from analogue to digital, BYO mobile phone and join us to learn some techniques with iPhone and Android photography. With Atget’s photographs for inspiration, take your own photographs of the uncanny in Sydney and use Instagram to enter our competition and have your photo projected in the Gallery’s Sepia Bar for one night only.

To celebrate Art & About, the Atget exhibition will be just $8 for this night only. Tickets can be purchased at the Gallery ticketing desk from 5pm.

Art & About Sydney is a collaborative arts festival which sees both the artist and the general public use the city as a canvas for creation and storytelling. This dynamic annual festival, now in its 11th year, is produced by City of Sydney Events.
