ART AFTER HOURS 10th birthday bash

Wednesday 25 September until 10pm

A vibrant evening with lots of events, including special guest Sarah Blasko.

As the first museum to introduce late night opening, the Art Gallery of NSW is now celebrating 10 years by extending opening hours to 10pm and adding a new pop-up bar as part of the Art After Hours offering.

Whether it’s live music and an exhibition talk, a tour of the contemporary galleries, a drink and bite to eat, enjoying a hands-on workshop or hearing from one of our well-known speakers, the night is all about immersing yourself in art.

'Over the past 10 years, close to 600,000 people have enjoyed Art After Hours and we are extremely proud of the success of this weekly event. Art After Hours is an exciting night for art lovers and newcomers alike to visit the Gallery with friends and enjoy the broader arts experience and exchange of ideas’, said Michael Brand, director of the Art Gallery of NSW.

The birthday celebrations for the evening are inspired by the current Sydney moderns exhibition and draw on vintage flair from the 1920s to 40s with live music from the era, swing dancers taking to the floor, the opportunity to ‘swing it’ in the Gallery with dance lessons, talks on modern and contemporary art, a feature film, a hands-on collage workshop and more. And we have the talented Sarah Blasko in conversation with Fenella Kernebone talking about art and music.

Full program

Throughout the evening prizes will be awarded to those who embrace the opportunity to show a little vintage flair, so ladies add a touch of 1920s vintage to your outfit and don’t forget your pearls, and men, tuck that kerchief in your pocket and dance the night away.

The entire Gallery will be open until 10pm with a $10 special ticket for the major temporary exhibitions currently on show: Sydney moderns and Renaissance to Goya. Throughout the evening the Gallery provides a courtesy bus every 15 minutes, dropping at various transport hubs in the city.

Macquarie has supported Art After Hours for the past four years. 'We are delighted to contribute to the Gallery’s efforts in both cementing art as an integral part of Sydney’s night-time experience and providing diverse audiences with greater opportunities to enjoy the collection and associated events’, said Robin Bishop, Head of Macquarie Capital, Australia and New Zealand.
