ARTEXPRESS 2013

ARTEXPRESS celebrates 30 years

Natasha Capstick, Time Between Times, photomedia, (detail) Stella Maris College, Manly

ARTEXPRESS brings together an outstanding selection of artworks produced by teenage artists. This year there are 42 works.

Drawn from works submitted for the NSW Higher School Certificate Visual Arts examination, ARTEXPRESS provides insights into students’ creativity and the issues and ideas that are of importance to them. The exhibition presents the independent voice of young people to a large and diverse audience and exemplifies not just their exceptional talent but also the expertise of the Visual Arts teachers who guide them through their studies.

The 42 artworks were selected from over 9500 students who sat the HSC Visual Arts examination in 2012. These works include painting, drawing, photomedia, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, graphic design, time-based forms and sculpture.

Leeanne Carr, coordinator of secondary education programs at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, says: This year marks our 30th ARTEXPRESS exhibition at the Gallery. The work created by these young students is outstanding and it gives these students an opportunity to showcase their work in a major public gallery.

Information about all the exhibiting artists and artworks, and a curator’s talk, can be found at insideartexpress.com.au from 20 February 2013.

ARTEXPRESS is a joint initiative of the NSW Department of Education and Communities and the Board of Studies NSW in association with the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The Gallery is the principal venue for ARTEXPRESS
