Move to music with dancer and educator Azzam Mohamed in a workshop held inside the exhibition What Does the Jukebox Dream Of?

On display is Susan Hiller’s installation Die gedanken sind frei (Thoughts are free) (2012), which features a customised jukebox that plays more than 100 revolutionary anthems.

At the start of this workshop, each participant will be invited to engage with Hiller’s artwork by selecting a song from the jukebox playlist that resonates with them, perhaps sparking a memory they would like to share through movement, without speaking. Together, the group will then explore the way these songs make them move as the music is played within the exhibition space.

A set of instructions will be provided on arrival to guide you. No experience is required and all abilities are welcome.

This event is part of a regular program of interactive workshops – Create, Draw, Meditate and Move – on Wednesday nights during Art After Hours at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, inspired by the Art Gallery’s collection and the art on display.

The session on 15 May is also part of the Art Gallery of New South Wales program Make it May.
