Our museum of art must be a place of experience and inspiration, and at the heart of that lies our collection. The Foundation provides lifeblood to the Art Gallery of New South Wales in supporting this core role of building our collection by acquiring exceptional works of art for our public to study and enjoy

Art Gallery donors play a vital role supporting the acquisition of artworks for our enormously rich and varied collection – the heart of our gallery.

We invite you to join our annual giving program. Donors who give $10,000 or more over four years become patrons of the Art Gallery of New South Wales Foundation, and enjoy a close connection to the Art Gallery. Direct your tax-deductible donation to the main acquisition fund or to a particular area, from Aboriginal or Asian art to conservation or public programs.

  • How to join

    We welcome donations of any amount. By clicking on the ‘Make a recurring donation’ button above, you can make annual or quarterly donations towards any area in the Foundation.

    Alternatively, you can click on the ‘Join now’ button above to join the Art Gallery of New South Wales Foundation, the Art Gallery’s major acquisition fund and the umbrella philanthropic organisation for all the Art Gallery benefactor groups and funds. If you prefer to pay by cheque or EFT payment, please download the form attached below.

    To join as a patron of our philanthropic family, you can commit to a tax-deductible donation starting from $10,000 over four years. This can be paid by one lump sum of $10,000 for the four years OR by annual instalments of a minimum average of $2500 per annum over the four-year period.

  • Higher levels of support

    There are a number of higher levels of support available. You can also join the Foundation by gifting works to the Art Gallery valued at over $10,000 (subject to curatorial approval) or by pledging a bequest of $100,000 or more: see Donate artwork and Leave a gift in your will. Honorary membership is commensurate with the level of support.

    Levels of support:

    • Patron: $10,000–$20,000 in a four-year period

    • Donor: $20,000–$50,000 in a five-year period

    • Fellow: $50,000–$100,000 in a ten-year period

    • Governor: $100,000–$500,000, period negotiable

    • Benefactor: $500,000–$1 million, period negotiable

    • Gold Benefactor: $1 million – $5 million, period negotiable

    • Life Benefactor: $5 million or more, period negotiable

  • Acknowledgement

    While you are a contributing patron, you are entitled to have your name listed on the Foundation honour board and will be invited to a tailored program of events, including:

    • private viewings of major exhibitions, with an introduction by the director or curator

    • exhibition openings

    • behind-the-scenes tours

    • 'in conversation’ tours with curators

    • interstate and overseas art-focused travel to galleries and private collections

    Each support area has events that are additional to the Foundation’s core program.
