Work hours extension

This notification is to advise of some changes to construction work hours as a result of the announcement by the NSW Planning and Public Spaces Minister on 2 April 2020.

The Environmental Planning and Assessment (COVID-19 Development – Construction Work Days) Order 2020 is now in place and allows construction sites in NSW to operate on weekends and public holidays. You can view a copy of the Order by searching for Government Gazette No 68 on gazette.legislation.nsw.gov.au.

This new Order will make it easier for workers to abide by social distancing rules while keeping construction projects progressing, by allowing building work to be spread across more days of the week.

The Sydney Modern Project will extend working hours on Saturdays from the current hours of 8am – 3.30pm to the new hours of 7am – 6pm, in line with weekday hours. The extended working hours will commence from Saturday, 16 May 2020.

The Project team understand the potential impacts this may cause to our neighbours so we will take all feasible and reasonable measures to minimise noise, traffic and vibration impacts during these extended work hours.

In line with the Order, high impact activities such as rock breaking, rock hammering, sheet piling, pile driving or similar activities will continue to be restricted to the work hours stipulated in the approved State Significant Development Application for the project [9am to 12pm, and 2pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday; and 9am to 12pm, Saturday].

The health and safety of the community and all people working on the project is paramount. The project is practicing social distancing and has implemented additional health and personal hygiene measures consistent with health advice, to ensure work can continue safely on site.
