Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship FAQs

Questions about online entry

How do I apply?

You must complete the application form online during the specified period, including uploading your work. You cannot download the form. It is available as a link from the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship page and will appear in a new browser window.

How many times can I enter?

One entry per person per year. Applicants, including finalists, can apply again in subsequent years.

For gender, what does ‘prefer to self-describe’ mean?

This is where you can tell us your gender if it’s not male or female – for example, non-binary or gender-fluid.”

Can I submit additional information or material to explain my process and support my application?

No. We only require, and accept, the information requested in the form.

Can I make changes after I’ve submitted the form?

No. Once your application has been submitted, you will not be able to make any changes, including which work you selected as your nominated work.

I made a mistake on my form. What should I do?

Do NOT submit another (corrected) entry online. If it is a crucial error of fact, email the correction to bwtas@ag.nsw.gov.au. Only crucial corrections (such as an error in contact details) will be accepted.

I’ve filled in the form and clicked submit but I’m not sure if it’s worked. What should I do?

If the form HAS been submitted successfully, you will see a message on a new screen saying ‘Thank you.’

If you DON’T see that message, take a look at all sections of the form again to see if there are any messages in red telling you it hasn’t been filled out correctly. If so, fill in those parts again and make sure you have clicked on each of the boxes under declaration, then click submit.

If there seems to be an issue, we suggest you wait and try again later or on another day.

Soon after submitting online, you’ll receive an automatic email to the email address you provided, with a copy of your completed application. DO NOT reply directly to this email.

If you’re still in doubt about whether the process has worked or have any issues, email bwtas@ag.nsw.gov.au with your details, including your phone number, and we’ll let you know.

Questions about the process

How do I find out if I am selected?

All applicants will be notified of results by email sent to the email address you have been provided on the form. Shortlisted applicants – and later scholarship recipients – will also be contacted by phone and arrangements made for them to deliver their work to the Brett Whiteley Studio for the second round of judging.

Is being shortlisted the same as being a finalist?

No. If you are shortlisted and asked to deliver your work for judging, it means you are being considered for the exhibition and the scholarship.
